Samsung will unveil Note7 on August 2nd

Samsung has officially sent out invitations to an Unpacked event at 11:00 a.m. EDT (5PM or 17:00hrs Zambian time) in New York City to unveil the latest Samsung Note7, yes they had the Note5 last year and have skipped the Note6 this year.

Samsung has explained why they skipped the ‘Note6’ name: ‘First, the Galaxy Note7 will  complement our Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and unify our product portfolio. Second, the Galaxy Note7 will minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung, and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone.’ (I feel they want to be at the same level with Apple, who have an iPhone 7 coming out soon, and don’t want to have names that feel rather ‘left behind’). If you consider that they had a Note Edge phone sometime back, then this actually is the 7th phone in the Note range. Not so smooth, Samsung.

It should come with curved edges, like we saw in the recent Galaxy ranges of phones.

They seem pretty excited about it too:

With added functionality of the S Pen and large screen, the Galaxy Note7 is a powerful instrument for achievement and self-expression, and is made for those who want to get the most from their phones – and their lives. Galaxy Note7 will help people do more in work, at home and everywhere in between. We can’t wait to tell you more about it!

This is a render of what the Note7 will look like, according to popular tech insider Evan Blass:
