BlackBerry BIS and BES support to be discontinued on MTN

Credit: MTN Zambia

MTN has shared that they will end BlackBerry BIS and BES support in a post today:

This serves to inform the general public that with effect from 3rd October, 2018, MTN will no longer be provisioning Blackberry subscriptions and services for internet access. This will affect all Blackberry models running on Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) and Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES), with the exception of handsets running on Blackberry Operating System (OS) 10 (Android).

However, customers will still be able to make Calls and send SMS on their Blackberry handsets, but will not be able to use the internet, except for those on Blackberry OS 10 (Android).

You can visit any of our Service Centres for an alternative android device. For queries, please call our call centre on 111.

Airtel’s website draws a blank under what is being offered under BlackBerry services but I have confirmed with an Airtel rep that they still support it and there are no plans to end support anytime soon. They will communicate if that changes.

Zamtel also no longer supports BlackBerry devices of any kind as of a while back, even the ones running Android, as confirmed by Changwe Kabwe, its Corporate Communications Specialist.
