With former Airtel Zambia Managing Director Charity Lumpa stepping down, there’s a new guy in town and his name is Peter Correia. He will be taking over as Airtel MD as of the 1st of March, 2015.
In an official statement issued today and speaking on the appointment, Christian de Faria, Airtel Africa’s CEO said, “Peter will be taking over from Charity Lumpa, who has requested to leave the company on early retirement to pursue other personal interests. During her tenure as Managing Director, Charity has invested time and effort in building a strong corporate reputation and improving our network quality. The operation has won several awards during her tenure. Please join me in welcoming Peter to Airtel Africa and in wishing Charity all the very best in her future endeavors as she hands over to Peter.”
Peter Correia comes with an electrical engineering background, having worked at Liquid Telecom most recently as Group Operations Director since 2012. He was responsible for Network Build and Operations. Before that he had worked for Vodacom (South Africa), MASCOM (Botswana), and Econet (Zimbabwe and South Africa) among a few other companies.
Hopefully a more commercial relationship between management and the subscribers because we all know the bottom end feeds the top.
We expect more decisions being made that don’t involve hurried promotions being rolled out that can’t support the overload by the network itself.
We expect to see more services that just simply make sense as he will be the one to put the final stamp of approval on some of them.
