Huawei Ascend P6, Elegance with Edge

Huawei Ascend P6-500x500

The billboards around town seem vague when it comes to describing the Huawei Ascend P6 and its specifications, especially if you keep staring at the beautiful lady they have on it holding the phone, but we’re here to give you the  scoop on this very stylish looking smartphone.

External features will have to cover display, colour , camera and size so here they are. The Huawei Ascend P6 comes in 3 colours: pink, white and black. It has dimensions of 132.7 x 65.5 x 6.2 mm and weighs only 120g making it one of the slimmest and lightest smartphones around.

It has a 4.7inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels which are actually give it it pretty great display. Its rear camera comes with 8 MP but the front camera is highly impressive at 5 MP compared to the top selling smartphones right now like the Samsung Galaxy S4 which has 2 MP or the iPhone 5s with 1.2 MP. This is great for selfies seeing as they are the trending thing on social media to date.

Let’s now take a look inside. The Huawei Ascend P6 runs on Android JellyBean v4.2 but there will be an upgrade to KitKat v4.4 coming out soon. It has a 1.5GHz CPu and Huawei K3V2 chipset, making it a not-so-bad phone to browse with. It has the same size of CPU as the Blackberry Z10 but the front camera, weight and looks of  the Ascend P6 makes it a better competitor.

When it comes to memory storage space, this is probably where the Huawei Ascend P6 failed to make a mark on the niche market. It comes with either 8 GB but since the phone itself needs its own software installed, the only available space will be almost less than half of that. There is no micro SD slot meaning you can’t add extra storage (this is where you invest in the Dropbox app) and looking at how much stuff people are storing on their devices these days, the memory is not impressive so it’s a “nay” from us.

At 2000 mAh the battery life is not perfect either. You could probably get up to 2/3 hours max with continued usage so keep your charger nearby.

Overall the phone is very beautiful to look at, it’s lighter than most smartphones and it has  a great front camera, but aside from that we weren’t dropping jaws and drooling when it came to the software. If they could upgrade it, it would give other devices on the market a run for their money so we hope they do. Soon.

A check today on the Huawei Ascend was going for K2900 at MTN stores.
