iSchool Rebrands as Mwabu and Positions Itself to Take on New Markets Zambian born iSchool, brainchild of the late Mark Bennett, launches its new name this week. Following major successes in Zambia since hitting the market two years ago, the company, formerly known as iSchool.zm, began trading outside Zambia, as Mwabu from mid January. The decision to rebrand the already renowned educational technology business comes in readiness to take on new markets across Africa.

Mwabu, will have a similar brand identity to iSchool, continuing to use images and videos to depict the life- changing projects that have seen the successful implementation of the Zambian national curriculum delivered on Mwabu tablet technology to teachers and learners across Zambia.

15,000 tablets have been sold in Zambia to date, enabling 190,000 teachers and learners to have access to enriching content and resources.Following Presidential approval of the tablet based national curriculum content in 2015, Mwabu is set to grow in 2016 and could close sales of up to 60,000 tablets in sub-Saharan Africa.

Several new territories are looking at the revolutionary concept, with trial proposals for South Africa, for Kenya and Lesotho in the pipeline.

Mwabu’s executive team is expanding to meet the international demand and will be based in a new head office located close to Cambridge, the UK’s education epicentre. CEO Justin Reilly leads the team and is joined by Chief Product Officer Clare Stead and by Guy Sherman as Chief Technical Officer. Further recruitment is planned.

The international team is strengthened further by the addition of two prominent Zambians; Dr Charlotte Harland Scott who has held several senior positions in UNICEF and other development agencies and Elias Chipimo, an Oxford-educated lawyer and former Zambian presidential candidate. They join Reilly’s growing team of educational and policy specialists to help take the business to the next level and give children in Africa brighter opportunities through quality education.

Mwabu plans to announce a new lead investor in the coming days who will join the board as a strategic advisor.
