StanChart Upbeat About Zambia’s Mining Sector

Standard Chartered Bank Zambia CEO, Sonny Zulu, says he is upbeat about Zambia’s Mining Sector. Mr. Zulu was speaking during the 30th Africa Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa.

Mr. Zulu says he is impressed with the renewed focus on Africa’s mining sector, particularly Zambia with the announcement of new copper exploration. He also indicated that the various pronouncements made by President Hakainde Hichilema in his address to the Mining Indaba gave new hope for the country’s investment prospects and mining output. “I was very impressed with the President’s update on the progress made towards achieving the 3 million tonnes of copper output target. The journey towards mining sector development is well and truly on the right path.”

“The message to all Zambians is that we have to hang in there because mining investments do take time – but we are certainly moving in the right direction,” said Mr. Zulu.

He also indicated that Standard Chartered Bank has had very fruitful meetings with strategic clients on the sidelines of the Mining Indaba, which will help to strengthen the existing partnerships between the mining companies and the banking sector.
