MTN Chadibadiba: 60 ‘free’ Minutes from 06 till 17hrs

chadibadiba We have hardly blinked since Airtel launched Nights of Chimwemwe, and Zamtel had launched Real Mahala promotion (which has since been made a permanent tariff)  but now MTN has also jumped on its own free-calls-and-texts type promotions bandwagon and introduced Chadibadiba. For K6 Kwacha you get 60 minutes ‘free’ (how is it free if you just paid K6 for it?) from 6 in the  morning till 17 hours.

Sounds like a plan right? Well, not from the customer reviews about MTN Chadibadiba on their own Facebook page about the promotion, with most of them complaining about how expensive it is and even threatening to switch to other networks.

What caught our attention was a constant referral by the complaining customers to the Real Mahala promotion by Zamtel which offers the following, according to their website

Real-Mahala

On Net Offer:  ZMW 1.50 per day
  • Get 90 minutes of on net calling between 6am and 6pm everyday and free on net calling between 8pm and 6am the following day.
  • This tariff plans gives you an amazing 11 hours and 30 minutes of free on net calling for only ZMW 1.50 per day.
  • On net calls are calls from Zamtel Mobile to Zamtel Mobile and Zamtel Landlines.
  • Dial *335*1# to subscribe
Off Net Offer: ZMW 3.00 per day
  • Get 90 minutes of on net calling between 6am and 6pm everyday and free on net calling between 8pm and 6am the following day.
  • Get a 50% discount on all off net calls between 6am and 6pm everyday.  Off net calls are calls made to Airtel and MTN only.
  • This tariff plans gives you an amazing 11 hours and 30 minutes of free on net calling and a 50% discount on all off net calls for only ZMW 3.00 per day.
  • On net calls are calls from Zamtel Mobile to Zamtel Mobile and Zamtel Landlines.
  • Dial *335*3# to subscribe.

Then we compared it with the recently launched Airtel Nights of Chimwemwe  promotion, though it’s a late night promotion. It runs from 11pm to 8 am and all you need to do is top up with atleast K2 and dial the usual *141# number to sign up. The package includes 5 hours of call time and 500 SMSes but ONLY to other Airtel lines. The promotion also offers 50MB of data and 50 more SMSes between 6 am and 8 am

  1. So basically, Zamtel and Airtel’s promotions win when it comes to practicality because you spend less than the MTN promotion.
  2. MTN Chadibadiba promotion could help you in your desperate moments during the day.
  3. Zamtel Real Mahala wins when it comes to rates for both on and off net rates compared to the other two.
  4. However, Airtel’s Nights of Chimwemwe promotion is perfect for lovers and teenagers who do not mind staying up to talk/text the night away.

There’s a good in all of them. So those are your promotions folks, make your choices wisely.
