Last week’s BIGGEST tech stories

Last Week's Tech Trends (1)

Before we go ahead with February let’s just briefly look at what happened last week closing off January in technology in Zambia.

To answer the question “should IT certification be an alternative to traditional education?”  we had ICT ZM share very insightful points on what the state of IT is in Zambia, whether we focus more on certifications and less on experience. They also shared the worst passwords that were used in online accounts by people everywhere. Was yours one of them? Find out here.

We told you how to deactivate your Facebook account or how to help your friends do it, especially if they’ve been saying they would for years now. Here’s how.

Setting up and starting a blog is easy, but how can you promote it here in Zambia? We shared insights from various local bloggers who met at this month’s Lusaka WordPress Meetup here.

Incase you’ve been wondering what the state of digital financial service agent networks is like in Zambia, the Helix Institute, Financial Sector Deepening Zambia (FSDZ) and the UNCDF MM4P (Mobile Money For the Poor) shared their research findings with us and you can see them here.

MTN Zambia then signed a partnership agreement with tech and innovation hub BongoHive to onboard more app developers who would be integrated into MTN’s APIs and provide unlimited internet access to BongoHive, mentoring and technical training for youth app developers. MTN Zambia was also officially launched as WorldRemit partner, to allow cross remittances which might really help money transfers for people abroad sending cash to family/friends back here.

The week ended with our first feature on our  ‘Local App Friday’ segment, an app called Bible Crossword, and yes it is just that! A Bible-based crossword puzzle that tests your Christian knowledge and have fun at the same time. Check out how to get it here. Do you have an app or digital product of your own to show us? Share it with us here.

Be sure to click the highlighted text for the full stories and have a great week ahead!!!
