Airtel Networks Zambia donates masks and sanitizers to Ministry of Transport and Communication

Airtel Networks Zambia Plc has donated masks and sanitizers to the Ministry of Transport and Communication as part of its continued support to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation which comprised of 1,000 cloth masks and 1,000 sanitizers and took place at the Ministry, was received by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Engineer Misheck Lungu and Director of Communication Mr. Yese Bwalya.

Speaking at the handover event, Airtel Zambia Legal and Regulatory Director Mrs. Suzyo Ndovi Akatama said the Transport and Communication sector played a major role in everyone’s life and thus it was important to help safe guard the lives of people in this sector.  

We know that all sectors need assitance but today we thought of mainly the Transport and Communication sector which we belong to and decided to give this humble donation of 1000 masks and 1000 sanitizers to the Ministry to help mitigate the pandemic,” Mrs. Akatama said.

On hand to receive the donation on behalf of the Ministry, Permanent Secretary, Engineer Lungu said: We are greatly humbled by this gesture even as we continue to battle this pandemic that has affected the entire World. This donation will be put to good use and we will see how we can distribute these items especially to our bus drivers and others who need to protect themselves as well as their passengers.”

Adding: “You may say this is a humble donation but believe me, it will go a long way in helping the sector. The Ministry will soon devise a plan of how the distribution will be done.”

On hand to receive the donation were other Ministry officials, Stephen Mbewe and Austin Sichinga.
