In a bid to continue helping supplement Government efforts in the Education sector, Airtel Networks Zambia Plc. has donated assorted educational books worth over K8, 000 to newly built Kaunda Square Secondary School located in Kaunda Square area of Lusaka.

The school which has over 800 pupil enrollment and is less than 3 years old is starting up a Library and requested for help from Airtel Networks Zambia Plc.

Airtel’s Head of Corporate Communications Mrs. Yuyo Nachali Kambikambi who handed over the books to the school Head Teacher Mrs. Agnes Chikwanda Salumayi said she hoped the donation would increase the reading levels for learners.

“As a company, we want to drive the culture of reading because we know that reading levels and access to reading materials is central to unlocking potential amongst our learners,” Mrs. Kambikambi said.

“As a company that is into telecommunications, naturally our bias is Mathematics and technology because without these, we will not have a future workforce of technicians and engineers needed for expanding, maintain and innovating the mobile platform.”

On receiving the Chemistry, Mathematics and Traditional Ceremonies books, Kaunda Square Head Teacher Mrs. Chikwanda Salumayi said Airtel was the first company to donate books to put into their new library and was grateful for the gesture as it would go a long way.

“The donation will further contribute not only to Kaunda Square School’s development and the catchment area but also bring development through the learned citizens that will go out into the nation as responsible citizens who would have had an opportunity to learn a lot from the Library books,” Mrs. Salumayi said.
