Zanaco and Airtel Money form mobile money partnership

Zanaco and Airtel Zambia have partnered to allow Airtel Money Agents and Dealers to deposit cash into their Airtel Money
wallet at any Zanaco branch or Zanaco Express shop across the country.

Airtel says ‘the push of digital financial services is about creating access and affordable products and services to financially include the populations at large, we see the partnership as a great opportunity to enhance already existing platforms and also encourage customers to move from exclusively cash-based transactions to formal digital financial services.’

“As technology continues to evolve with time, the partnership with ZANACO creates a large number of points for Airtel money agents to rebalance their mobile money accounts so they can continue to service customers more effectively. Since the push of digital financial services is about creating access and affordable products and services to financially include the populations at large, we see the partnership as a great opportunity to enhance already existing platforms and also encourage customers to move from exclusively cash-based transactions to formal digital financial services.” – James Chona, Airtel Money Director.

The company also says this new partnership will see it increase mobile money users’ access to cash from Zanaco’s over 1000 booths across the country.

“Zanaco has continued to invest heavily in new systems and digital technology to enhance our banking services offering through the development of new products and services to customers. therefore, today Zanaco is happy to be partnering with airtel to enhance the use of digital innovations as a tool for driving economic growth and financial inclusion. Zanaco has a vision to be the top transactional bank by 2020, which can be achieved through the creation of   products and services that add value to people’s lives.” – Wane Ng’ambi, Zanaco Chief Digital Banking Officer.

“This partnership will deal with some of the missing links in the digital financial services space, aimed at driving financial inclusion for the “the mass market consumers”. We have noted with concern that corporates focus on the top of the pyramid, without paying attention to the low income earners who are equally as important.  The partnership is evidence that this can be a reality.”
