Here’s what you missed in tech last week:

Firstly, MTN and Airtel’s Pre-orders went live on their online stores and subscribers can order either the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus for MTN, or the 16 or 64GB iPhone 6 variants with Airtel.

The iPhone 6 is going for K5600 and the iPhone 6 Plus for K6600 with MTN, while Airtel is selling the 16GB iPhone 6 for K6500 and the 64GB iPhone 6 at K7500. With MTN the offer comes with 1GB of free data and a 100 SMSes everyday for 3 months. Airtel’s bundled offer is 1 GB of data  with 20MB of data everyday for 6 months. The choice of what to buy is up to you and your pocket.

There was also news about little known (in Zambia that is) app Telegram hitting it’s 50 million active user mark in just a little over a year after it was released to the world. It rivals Whatsapp messenger but it’s dong pretty well with users sending 1 billion messages a day, and we expect it to do much better in Africa because for now the main countries using it are in the USA, Europe, Asia and South America.

Another app doing well is Instagram which now has 300 million users globally. The love of sharing pictures has become a deal these days. A picture says a thousand words, more like a picture is making Instagram thousands of dollars. The Instagram team is currently working on verified badges that show users which accounts are the real accounts of famous people or places or institutions, to avoid users following parody accounts. This is similar to the blue tick on Twitter that shows you the authenticity of a particular account.

In other tech news, we gave you the story on what phones we think have been the best this year and it came down to 6: Samsung Galaxy Note 4, HTC One M8, LG G3, OnePlus One, Sony Xperia Z3, and the iPhone 6. For a full review, read more here.
