BlackBerry Z10, Good Enough for Less?

z10

What really are these BlackBerry 10 devices about, you may wonder. Well, we got to handle the BlackBerry Z10 and here’s what we now know about it.

From it’s appearance, it really does appeal to the eye. We got hold of  a black one and slick is an understatement. The back cover has a textured feel so you feel a sense of security carrying it in your hand without a phone casing. It’s the front screen that had us worried about not stuffing it in a bag or box filled with cushions. The screen is very “glassy” and it feels like the slightest tap against a hard surface could send it shattering.

Now we get to the important part; what it’s packing inside. The BlackBerry Z10 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz processor which enables an extent of faster browsing, doing more on less battery (in this case 1800 mAh), for a phone its price.

It is actually cheap depending where you buy it. Most people are selling it for less than K2500. However, it is going for K4800 in MTN stores. Didn’t they get the memo? BlackBerry rolled out the Z10 specifically to boost its sales by making it a good but cheap phone.

It has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Plus, the memory can be expanded up to 64GB with an additional memory card. That’s a lot of space for at least some movies and all the seasons of Scandal. The screen has a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels so it’s clear enough for your viewing pleasure.

The BlackBerry Z10 has  8MP in the rear camera and 2MP for the  front camera so you can still capture your most favourable  moments with some quality.

It is a 4G LTE enabled phone so it’s a good investment if you want a smartphone for a fair price. If your area within Zambia cannot access 4G, don’t worry. You can change settings to allow the phone to work on 2G or 3G.

The only annoying part we encountered with the BlackBerry Z10 was the unlock button that is placed on top of the handset. Putting the phone in the pocket of your jeans without pressing it, unlocking it in the process, was a hustle. It would have perhaps been helpful to put the lock/unlock screen option on the screen itself.
