The Twitter Outage You Didn’t Notice

Twitter IPO Raises $1.82 Billion With Value Topping Facebook

Last night, there was a brief Twitter outage that you probably didn’t notice. Surely it must have been your mobile data just acting up or the usually unreliable Zambian internet connection. Well it turns out that there was indeed a Twitter outage with pages not refreshing at all. Twitter had this to say

“During a planned deploy in one of our core services, we experienced unexpected complications that made Twitter unavailable for many users starting at 11:01am. We rolled back the change as soon as we identified the issue and began a controlled recovery to ensure stability of other parts of the service. The site was fully recovered by 11:47am PDT. We apologize for the inconvenience. Most users are experiencing issues accessing Twitter on web and mobile apps. We’re looking into it.”

It was a frustrating time though brief, because Twitter has such a large following and more people easily notice when something is wrong.  Consequently, many people resorted to “tweeting on Facebook”, that is changing their status every 5 minutes!

However, Twitter was quick to respond on it’s own Twitter account with this status a few minutes after the outage:

Twitter Support @Support : Most users were impacted by a service outage when accessing Twitter via web and mobile apps. Service is restored. Thanks for your patience!
It was even worse when using a PC because all one got to see was this page when they tried to open the social network.

Well it’s back up so you don’t have to worry about not tweeting anymore. We hope that doesn’t happen again but we have to understand Twitter has it’s own issues to sort out on  a daily basis.
