What You Should Know About The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge

Edge

It’s called Galaxy Note ‘Edge’ because the edge of the screen has a glass panel that allows you to view notifications, use a ruler, and stopwatch without disturbing your main screen activity, so if you’re watching  a movie on the main screen, you can still see your movies on the side undisturbed. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is basically a Galaxy Note 4 but with ‘Edge’.

Display and screen resolution: The screen is a Quad HD Super AMOLED display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution, making it a great gadget for web browsing experience, watching videos and also if you’re into e-reading.

Dimensions and weight: 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3 mm and weighs 174g (making it slightly smaller than the Galaxy Note 4 which comes in 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3 mm and weighs 176g).

Connectivity: It is 3G and 4G/LTE enabled.

CPU, Processor and Operating System: Quad-core 2.7GHz Krait 450 CPU, an Adreno 420 GPU and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, just like the Samsung Note 4.

Storage: It has 3GB of RAM, and 32 GB internal memory. You can add more space by slotting in a microSD card of up to 128GB.

Camera: The Galaxy Note Edge has a 16MP rear camera and 3.7 MP front camera that makes it an ‘ok‘ phone for your picture taking sprees.

Battery Life: The battery is 3000mAh (smaller than the Note 4’s 3220mAh one) and Samsung claims it’s their fastest charging smartphone, charging up to 30% faster than others. They say it will charge up to half full in just 30 minutes, compared to 55 minutes for most. We’ll have to see about that hands on.

Price: The Note Edge comes with an estimated price of $946 (approx. K 6,026!!)in the US, (more when in Zambia). It looks like they stretched its price over the Note 4 which is currently going for around K5,250 for the extra EDGE screen.

Other Features: Smart Select using the S-Pen allows you to select content over your screen to highlight, copy or paste it.

This phone is not easily suitable for left handed users as the second screen is on the right hand side. However, by activating screen rotation you can turn the phone upside down and still be able to use the phone that way, but then who wants their home keys at the top? That would just look and feel odd anyway. A phone with 3 screens maybe, huh Samsung? That could happen.

Sadly it also comes with Android’s 4.4 KitKat, we expected the new Android 5.0 Lollipop. Anyway, we can’t have it all now, can we?

Overall, it’s a phone worth investing in.
