The Dropbox 411

Dropbox

What is Dropbox? Your smartphone or tablet probably has it but you have never even bothered to check it out. So, here’s a quick summary review of what it’s all about and once you’re done reading, you’ll thank us for making your life so much easier.

First off, it’s an easy way to share your files over the internet without having to use USB flash discs or transfer from phones to computers and vice versa. You can keep all sorts of computer files/documents in your Dropbox account and access them on another mobile device or computer after you sign in with your private password.

Dropbox stores all your data in a cloud storage system and they are saved in the same format. Some examples of how you can use Dropbox are:

You can share a folder full of work  documents with your co workers at the same time without having to meet them in person or having to hold a meeting to distribute actual papers. It lessens the paper work because everything is done online.

If you’re using a smartphone that has Dropbox installed, your pictures will be automatically saved. All you have to do next is open your Dropbox account on your Pc/laptop without having to use a cable to transfer the pictures and you can choose what you want to do with them, whether print, edit or share via social media.

Dropbox also allows you to back up your files so in the unfortunate event that your phone or computer crashes, you are still able to retrieve all your files using another phone or computer.

A good thing to note too is that you can navigate your way around on the app because it has similar functions to operating systems like Microsoft, Mac and Linux so you can move, copy, paste, delete, etc. Any changes you make to any file on your original storage device e.g phone or computer, will also be instantly updated on Dropbox too it’s less stress and work. You don’t have to edit it on Dropbox too. Plus you have access to a history of all your Dropbox activities and deleted files so you can manage those too. Smart, right?

According to PCMag, “Dropbox is a superbly implemented, cloud-based, automatic, file-synchronization service that’s ideal for working with files you can store in a single folder”.

Wondering how much it costs? The Dropbox website says  ‘all new Dropbox accounts and downloads, including the desktop and mobile apps, are totally free.

Dropbox accounts start with 2 GB of free space. You can earn more free space in a variety of ways. For example, by referring your friends to Dropbox, you can earn up to 16 GB of additional space.

If you ever run out of space, you can upgrade your account with a monthly or yearly subscription to a Dropbox Pro 100 GB, 200 GB, or 500 GB plan. If you’re an organization or group looking to share an even larger amount of space together, you may be interested in Dropbox for Business’.

It’s about time you installed it and reduce your worries over losing important files.
