Google partners with Xiaomi for Android One

Google has confirmed its partner as Xiaomi for the Android One.

“Mi A1 is our first Android One phone with a software experience designed by Google. We’ve partnered with Google to bring you a pure Android phone that stays secure and fresh over time, with your favorite Google services front and center.” – Xiaomi

Since its launch in 2014, the Android One project was meant to produce high quality affordable phones, with Google stating:

“The larger community has told us they value what Android One stands for across a range of phones – a refreshingly simple software experience that is accessible, always fresh and stays ahead of the curve with improvements to battery life, usability, and of course security”.

Xiaomi will kick off its first Android One device called the Mi A1 in India, Indonesia, Russia, Vietnam and Taiwan initially, with some markets in Europ and Latin America. It will cost $234 (approx. K2140).

The metallic bodied Mi A1 will come with

  • a 5.5″ HD screen
  • 12MP wide range and 12MP telephoto dual cameras
  • a 3080mAh battery
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64GB of storage
  • and powered by an octacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor
