Charles Molapisi leaves MTN Zambia as CEO to become Group’s CTIO

Former MTN Group Chief Technology and Information Officer Babak Fouladi who resigned has been replaced by Charles Molapisi effective 1 January 2019. Fouladi is leaving to take up an opportunity in Europe. Charles Molapisi has been MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the past 3 years since October 2015.

The former MTN Cyprus CEO Philip van Dalsen will take over as MTN Zambia CEO with effect from 1 January 2019.

Molapisi entered the Zambian telecoms scene with the aim of focusing on the customer in terms of innovation and service. He led the company in declaring 2018 the ‘Year of the Customer’.

“A lot of good work has been done by the previous leadership, but the telecom business changes everyday in real time. What I believe I’ll be able to do is uplift the business to take it from where it is, and mainly look at its digital transformation which we’re all shifting to.” – Charles Molapisi as he started his role as MTN Zambia CEO.

During his tenure, MTN Zambia has won some notable awards during his tenure such as Most Innovative DFS Provider Award and Agent Value Chain Development Award at the recent Digital Chikwama Awards.

MTN Zambia has also seen a number of innovations by the team in the past few years such as partnering with ZRA for ePayments of taxes and NAPSA for payments of contributions, created a virtual card that works with Mobile Money to make online purchases, launched TeleSchool, and launched a new number range, 076.
